ALLISON DENNERT

Coastal Ecologist and Doctoral Candidate

Research Interests

Coastal oceans, estuaries, and rivers are key habits for numerous ecologically and culturally important species. Using intensive fieldwork and mathematical modelling, I investigate the ecological mechanisms acting at ecosystem boundaries and cross-ecosystem connectivity at land-sea interfaces.

About ME

I am a PhD Candidate in the Earth2Ocean Research Group at Simon Fraser University, supervised by Dr. John Reynolds and Dr. Elizabeth Elle. I study how nutrients move through coastal ecosystems. My current research examines the effects of spawning Pacific salmon on coastal shrubs and wildflowers, and how coastal pollinators respond to nutrient pulses from the sea. I also sit on the board of directors of the Evans Lake Forest Education Society, a charitable organization that has provided education programs to children and youth since 1960.

Formerly, I worked as a research assistant and lab manager at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Zoology. I also worked in the UBC Department of Botany and the UBC Herbarium at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. I completed my BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology under the supervision of Dr. Eric Taylor at UBC.
